Goa government employees' association threaten strike

PANAJI: The coordination committee of the Goa Government Employees' Association-which comprises employees delivering essential services - on Tuesday served a strike notice on the government for its failure to settle their pending demands.

Convenor of the association Saturnino Mesquita said that last month, government employees had been assured that the matter of upgrading pay scales of all left-out categories would be settled by December 20.

"As there has been no significant action taken on this assurance, a meet of unions of the PWD, electricity department, navigation department, printing and stationery department, forest department, KTCL, and allied employees' associations have unanimously resolved to strike work if the government fails to resolve their demands in 21 days," Mesquita said.

The meeting was chaired by the president of the electricity employees' union A F G Mascarenhas, and was attended by Caetano Lourenco, Gregorio Maura, Joaquim Fernandes, and Nanda Vagurmekar, besides Saturnino Mesquita.

The coordination committee has warned that under no circumnstances, the upgradation granted to any category/cadre of government employees should be withdrawn.
