New Delhi: The Union Public Services Commission has decided to induct 965 officers from this year through its all India level exams.

This was declared by a notification for Civil Services Exam 2010 issued by the Commission. Around 900 officers were inducted till last year.

UPSC selects officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other central government services through its All India Examination. The preliminary examination is scheduled to be held on May 23 this year.

"It is really a good news for all the aspirants. Selection for such a large number of posts will surely attract more and more talent," said Alengowen, working with Bajirao and Ravi Institute for civil service exams preparation.

Krisshnamurari, who has been guiding students of All India Service Exams said, "It is really a welcoming step. The decision of having these many people will benefit young talent."

Vibhas Mishra, who is associated with Khan Study Group said "number of talented officers in the government machinery will help in improving its performance."





Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has recently announced to increase the intake of IPS officers from 130 to 150 through the All India Civil Service Exams.

Meanwhile, the Commission has on November 12 last year advocated change in examination pattern by replacing the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination with an Aptitude Test.

"UPSC is convinced of the need for important changes in the method of recruitment to the higher civil services that are the vehicle for public service delivery. One of the recommendations made by the Commission to the government is that a Civil Service Aptitude Test replace the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination," UPSC Chairman, Professor D P Agrawal has said.

The proposal is to have two objective type papers that are common to all candidates. The emphasis is on testing the aptitude of the candidate for the demanding life in the civil service, as well as on ethical and moral dimensions of decision-making, he said.



"It has also been proposed that the structure of the Civil Services (Main) Examination may remain the same till a Committee of Experts, that may be appointed by the Commission, goes into various aspects," Agrawal said.

UPSC receives more than a million applications for all of the 14 regular examinations and other recruitments it conducts every year. It recommends for appointment of about 5,000 officers annually, after a rigorous process of screening, testing, and personal interview as necessary   SOURCE;PTI
