Central Teacher Eligibility Test: Some facts

Central Authority

The Union ministry of human resource development, Government of India, has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

AIM

* To introduce national standards and benchmarks to ensure quality of teachers in the recruitment process

* To induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards

* To send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the government lays special emphasis on teacher quality

APPLICABILITY

* The CTET shall apply to schools of the central government namely

- Kendriya Vidyalayas

- Navodaya Vidyalayas

- Tibetan Schools

- Schools under the administrative control of Union Territory of Chandigarh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands


* Schools affiliated to the CBSE

* CTET may also apply to unaided private schools


FREQUENCY OF EXAM

The CTET is currently being conducted annually


VALIDITY PERIOD OF CTET CERTIFICATE

The validity period of CTET certificate will be seven years for all categories. There is no restriction on the number of attempts. A person qualifying the CTET may appear again to improve his/her score


STRUCTURE

There will be two papers of CTET and the examination will be for three hours


* Paper I will be for individuals wanting to teach standards I to V. Each paper will carry 30 marks

* Paper II will be for individuals wanting to teach standards VI to VIII
