Fee structure details posted on government website-Tamil Nadu

The fee structure stipulated by the Justice Govindarajan Committee for all private schools in the State has been posted on the official website of Tamil Nadu government.

Parents can log on to the website – www.tn.gov.in – to know the class-wise fee particulars of each school in all districts.

The Private Schools Fee Determination Committee, headed by Justice Govindarajan, has given direction to several schools across the State “not to collect any amount from the students … without getting written permission from the committee.”

This direction is applicable to schools that had not submitted the details of the fees collected from students when the State government-constituted committee had circulated a questionnaire to them last year.

The website has categorised nursery, primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools in 33 districts.

The public can access the details in the School Education Department section of the Tamil Nadu Government website.

By posting the fee structure on the website, the government has put an end to the anxiety of parents and the general public, who were so far kept in the dark by the respective school managements.

Attempts by the parents to get the fee details from the offices of Chief Educational Officers/Inspectors of Matriculation Schools in districts proved futile.

The officials were telling the parents that the committee had sent the details of fees in sealed covers directly to individual schools in July this year.

Despite the committee directing the schools to display the fee structure on their notice boards, many schools did not comply with the directive.

Parents had been demanding display of the fee structure so that they could pay the stipulated fee.

While sending the fee structure details to respective schools, the government in a letter stated,

“The fee amount was determined taking into consideration the amounts collected under different heads by you. You can collect the amount under various heads but the total of the same should not be more than the amount fixed for by the committee. This amount does not include the amount being collected for the purpose of hostel and transport.”
