NATIONAL POLICY FOR OLDER PERSONS -A REVIEW

 A committee has been constituted to review the decade-old National Policy for Older Persons, and the panel is likely to give its recommendations soon.

The move comes in the light of the changing situation and experience gained through implementation of programmes for the elderly, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Wasnik said here today.

He was speaking after conferring the 'Vayosreshtha Samman', 2010 on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons.

Wasnik said, "Ten years have passed since the policy was formed and therefore, it was felt that there was a need to review the policy in changing social and economic conditions".

An official in the ministry said this committee would submit its recommendations to the ministry by December.

Indicating that the population of elderly people in India is projected to be around 8.
